Driver Slams Into Indiana Jewelry Store

A driver slammed his vehicle into Martin Binder Jeweler in Valparaiso, IN, and police believe he was intoxicated, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The Valparaiso Police Department said on its Facebook page that Christopher Youngblood, 52, of Michigan City, was traveling eastbound on U.S. 30 when his vehicle “crossed the median, drove across WB US 30 and then off the roadway and into the jewelry store.” They responded to the jewelry store just before 6 a.m. Thursday.

Youngblood was transported to Porter Regional Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

“Youngblood displayed signs of intoxication and a warrant is being requested for the charge of OWI by police,” police said.

The Tribune reports that damage to the jewelry store was minor. On its Facebook page, Martin Binder Jeweler said it anticipated opening at noon Thursday.

“Our thoughts are certainly with the driver and those close to them,” the jeweler stated.
