Zen Jeweler: Heads I Win, Tails I Lose

EVERYONE KNOWS there are two sides to every coin. In other words, everything has a flip side. It’s funny that we don’t understand that about ourselves and the way we approach business. 

Amy Grant said it well some years ago: ?The same sun that melts the wax hardens clay.? 

We see this in businesses every day. We have creative people in our workplaces who cannot add, and accountants in our stores who cannot solve problems creatively. We have salespeople who can sell watches but can’t set them. 

So here’s the thing. When you get up in the morning, where do you hide your flip side? Everyone else has one, and everyone needs to work on it. But you, the manager, the owner, are you lucky enough to have no flip side? Thank goodness. Because otherwise you’d need to hire people to help.  

I know my talent. And I know it leaves me vulnerable. That’s why I need someone who covers my flip side for me.
