Heart-Shaped Diamond Is Largest of Its Kind in the World, Graff Says

Graff Diamonds announced that a gemstone it’s calling the “Graff Venus” is “the largest D Flawless heart shape diamond in the world.”

Graff said it took over 18 months to analyze, cut and polish the type IIa 118.78-carat diamond from a 357-carat rough diamond found at the Letseng mine in Lesotho.

“We were given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and we created absolute perfection,” said Laurence Graff, chairman of Graff Diamonds.

He added that the stone is “the most beautiful heart-shaped diamond I have ever seen.”

Rapaport News explains that “miner Gem Diamonds sold the rough for $19.3 million to an undisclosed buyer” in 2015.

The Graff Venus isn’t the only headline-grabbing diamond the company has unveiled this year. In August it announced the 105.07-carat D Flawless pear-shape Graff Vendome diamond. It said the gem was “the largest cut and polished diamond of its kind in Graff’s history.”
