Inside Alibaba’s $14 Billion Sales Day

China’s “Singles Day” is five times bigger than America’s “Cyber Monday”.

So what were your sales like on November 11? Would it amaze you to learn that Alibaba sold a record-breaking $14.3 billion in merchandise during that single 24-hour period? Last year, the company’s sales on that date – “Singles Day” in China, sort of the anti-Valentine’s Day, and historically the biggest online shopping day in the world — amounted to $9 billion, so maybe the Chinese are shopping again. Business Insider has photos of what it looks like to ship 310 million delivery orders. Perhaps the most shocking statistic of all? Nearly 70% of those millions of purchases were made on mobile phones.
