Jewelers Look Back On 89 Years In Business

Caplan’s Jewelry Store in Weston, WV, has been an important part of the community for 89 years, and its owners recently talked about their keys to success.

Dave and Terry Glover have owned the store since 1970, the Exponent Telegram reports. The business was opened in 1927 by Terry Glover’s great-uncle.

“We wait on third and fourth generations of customers,” Dave Glover said. “We don’t have customers; we have friends.”

The shop is the last remaining jewelry store in Weston, and with this status has come business growth.

Maintaining a diverse product mix, even beyond jewelry, has also been important for Caplan’s.
“We’ve been carrying Vera Bradley for 10 years — purses, accessories, scarves, travel luggage, lotion and perfumes,” Terry Glover said. Customers often come in for one item and end up buying a couple of things.

And the store’s family tradition is continuing. The Glovers’ daughter, Melissa Fox, has been working at Caplan’s for two decades.
