Jewelry Company Founder and Philanthropist Dies

He passed away on Dec. 18.

Clyde Duneier Inc., who founded the jewelry firm Clyde Duneier Inc. and left his mark as a philanthropist, has died at age 88. He passed away on Dec. 18.

Duneier was the founder of the Jewelers Charity Fund in 1983, according to an obituary published in the New York Times. In time, that effort led to the creation of Jewelers for Children.

Among his other accomplishments, Duneier “was also responsible for the formation of The Plumb Club, a unique coalition of leading jewelry manufacturers spanning all facets of the jewelry, diamond, and watch industries,” according to the obituary.

New York-based Clyde Duneier Inc.’s website explains that Duneier was the son of Max Duneier, “an Austrian emigrant who arrived in New York City in 1910 with a single suitcase and a lifelong passion for exquisite gemstones.”

Today, the company is operated by the third and fourth generations of Duneiers, according to the site.

The site says the firm “is recognized throughout the industry for unique capabilities in creating proprietary and generic jewelry lines for major retailers.”
