Jewelry-Store Employees Use Swords to Ward Off Thieves

Robbers tried to take merchandise from Ashok Jewellers in the Canadian city of Mississauga but were scared away by employees wielding swords.

Four men tried to get into the store by breaking a window, police said. But they soon encountered sword-wielding staff members, the Toronto Sun reports.

One of the culprits used a small sledgehammer to break a store window at about 12:15 p.m. on a Wednesday.

But he and one of his accomplices soon encountered three employees who were holding swords.

Although one of the would-be thieves briefly pointed a gun at the employees, the four criminals soon fled in a vehicle.

It worked this time, but taking such a stand is, of course, not recommended.

“At the end of the day, it’s just property and these items can be replaced by your insurance,” said Const. Akhil Mooken.
