Judge the Jewels: Kacey Musgraves Nails Classic Glamour in De Beers Colored Diamonds

The sighting: Singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves attended the Met Gala in a sleek, elegant ensemble that made her seem like she’d sauntered directly out of a John Singer Sargent painting. The firework embellishments on her gown echoed my favorite part of her ‘fit: a gorgeous colored diamond necklace.

The jewels: Musgraves is wearing the De Beers Motlatse Marvel necklace, which features 66 carats of pink, orange, yellow, and white diamonds in yellow, white, and rose gold. She paired the necklace with a diamond bracelet (12.28 TCW), pear shaped diamond cocktail ring (6.80 TCW), and classic diamond studs (4.04 TCW), all also by De Beers.

The trends: It is so satisfying to see a trend prediction come true. Everyone has been waiting to find out if the new Bennifer green diamond engagement ring would bring about a colored diamond renaissance…and now we have a powerful piece of evidence that says that moment is arriving.

What do we think? Personally, I think this is fantastic. The necklace has the silhouette of a classic diamond fringe necklace, but the color elevates it to a whole new level of luxury and delicacy. The diamond ring and bracelet worn over Musgraves’ black opera-length gloves add another element of iconic glamour and dramatic contrast.

Her earrings are simple round diamond studs…which is the one nit I could possibly pick. I understand that simplicity was part of why this look worked, but just imagine if she was wearing yellow pear diamond studs instead, to tie in the necklace. I think it would have added a tad more oomph.

Judgement: 11/10. Streamlined glamour executed with precision and panache!
