WHILE MANY OF the celebrities at the Cannes Film Festival made their entrances in trends we have been seeing — bigger is better gemstones, multiple diamond rings, sparkling hair ornaments and all different styles of diamond necklaces — Katherine Langford and Cindy Bruna went in a different direction. They wore their necklaces down their backs.
It’s a look that Jennifer Lawrence and Charlize Theron have played with during different award seasons. But while Lawrence and Theron wore long strands of diamonds, Langford and Bruna opted for shorter bib and fringe style necklaces with diamonds punctuated by precious gems.
Let’s start with Langford, who wore Piaget’s High Jewelry diamond and emerald necklace facing backward with a Prada gown that glittered from all angles. The necklace added an irreverent chic with Langford’s hair in an updo yet was still an elegant touch for the emerging actress.
On a different note, the awe-inspiring Chaumet necklace that Bruna wore with her powder puff pink poufy Giambattista Valli gown was spectacular in its transformability. The front was a diamond bib style with a padparadscha sapphire pear shape drop that ranged in color between blush and sunset pinkish peach. The back was drapey and longer with a diamond pendant encasing a rare padparadscha sapphire.
While so much of the jewelry at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival was dripping with the dramatic glamour we have come to expect from the event the backward necklace is an idea for summer for those who have shorter hair. It also works when you wear your long tresses in an updo with low V-or backless dress.
