‘Legendary’ Cartier Watch Could Bring $400,000 at Auction

A Cartier Cheich watch could bring $400,000 in an upcoming auction.

The timepiece will lead Sotheby’s next Fine Watches auction in Paris. It’s set for Sept. 16-30.

This sale will include both contemporary and vintage watches from brands such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Breguet, in addition to Cartier.

Forbes reported that the watch has a unique history. It was awarded to Gaston Rahier, a Belgian motorcycle racer who won two consecutive Paris-Dakar races, in 1984 and 1985. The accomplishment was known as the Cartier Challenge.

Rahier was the “first and only” winner of that challenge, Forbes explained.

“It is the first time this legendary model appears for sale,” Sotheby’s noted.

It’s expected to sell for between $200,000 and $400,000, according to Forbes.
