Haiku is probably the most remarkable of
all poetic forms. As practiced by the great
Japanese poets, the best haikus manage to
evoke beauty, build emotion and provide
wisdom — all in only seventeen syllables. And
then there are these haikus created by
Instore’s “In the End” team …
| Doughnut crumbs tumble
upon ring display … curse those
security guards | Footsteps echo … the buzz
of fluorescent lights above
Damn Super Bowl
| | Ugly broken watch
mark it down twenty percent
someone will buy it
| Brand-name watches in
my competitor’s window
authorized, my foot!
| | He’s old, she’s not … a
soft swipe of his credit card
clears away the years
| A couple lingers
engagement rings, I foresee
sigh … watch battery
| | Tock tick, tock tick, tock
something a bit strange with this
Rolex from Thailand
| She: A true treasure
enough love for a lifetime
He: Nooky tonight
| | My top salesperson
is sleeping with my wife … so,
who stays and who goes?
| Brochures, calls, emails
I went overboard … customers
think I’m stalking them
| | He asks for a raise
happy to oblige, when the
cash he stole’s replaced
| On his muddy shoes
a dewdrop glistens … Rejoice!
I found the damn thing
| | Inventory blues
out of my mind, ordering
all of those mood rings
| | | Darkening skies and
now the flood — a half-carat,
you rotten cheapskate?
| | That gold pendant’s swing
mesmerized me; I wasn’t
looking at your chest!
