The jewelry: The jaw-dropper here is the Lune Bleue pendant from Louis Vuitton’s galaxy-inspired Stellar Times Collection. It’s a large disc showing a celestial scene; a crescent moon made of diamonds cradles a sizable cabochon sapphire against a stylized sky of diamonds and sapphires.
King wears the Lune Bleue with its sautoir-length diamond chain doubled, positioning the pendant at exactly the right height between the lapels of her double-breasted Louis Vuitton jacket. She accents the look with medium-sized diamond hoops and a smattering of diamond rings to add sparkle without pulling focus.
Our analysis: There’s been an enthusiastic return of 1970’s style round medallion pendants in the last few years, but we don’t often see the silhouette scaled up to this ultra-luxe level. It’s very effective; unexpectedly glamorous without feeling too formal.
We’ve seen diamond-encrusted hoop earrings on several red carpets recently, but they’ve mostly been paired with bare clavicles. The looks works brilliantly when the hoops play second fiddle to a serious statement necklace; it’s more fun than bare lobes or diamond studs but still doesn’t distract from the pendant.
The contrast of cool white diamonds and silver shoes against those gold buttons and gold-accented clutch is simply beautiful. A strong moment for mixed metals and an all-around gorgeous look from Regina King and her stylist team, Wayman + Micah.
