True Tales: Iraq and a Hard Place

OOne of our most colorful and biggerthan- life customers had called for a lastminute rush order of a special pair of diamond earrings for his first anniversary. (The engagement ring had been bought here and sealed with shots of Crown Royal, which he had given me as a gift). I could hardly hear him with what sounded like a heck of a party or an early 4th of July celebration going on. More static, interference, yelling and repeating and finally advice on how I, in fact, would make the presentation to his wife.

He was in a war zone in Iraq, and the background noise was artillery shelling.

He’s safely back now … a patriot, and to this day he is called “Iraq Jack.” — J. Dennis Petimezas, Watchmakers Diamonds & Jewelry, Johnstown, PA
