True Tales: The Woman With No Voice

?Our decor and presentation leads some people to assume our store is more of a museum than a retail jewelry store. Many times people come in and whisper amongst themselves about various pieces. When I saw them doing that, I used to stand up and announce in a loud, friendly voice, ?Hey, this isn’t a library or museum, so there is no need to whisper, and I’ll be glad to show you any of our items?. One morning, these two ladies walk in and go to the wall case farthest from my desk and start to whisper to one another. So I stand up and make my announcement about it not being a library or museum and that there was no need to whisper. At this point, the one lady raises an artificial larynx to her throat and says, in an electronic-enhanced voice, ?I’m sorry, I don’t have a voice?! I will never use that line ever again when people whisper in the store.
