UK Jeweler to Close After Nearly 230 Years in Business

A jewelry store in the U.K. is closing its doors after 228 years in business.

Andrew Campin, owner of Martin Wilkinson Jewellers, located in the town of Mansfield in Nottinghamshire, England, is retiring, the Nottingham Post reports. He said there’s no one to take over the business, as his three children are involved in other careers.

Campin started working at Martin Wilkinson in 1968. His father, Edgar William Campin, had taken over the business in the late 1930s.

“I started work in the jewellery industry over 60 years ago and it will be a sad day when I close the family business for the final time.” Andrew Campin said.

The store’s history dates to 1794, when it was called Coral.
