Who Needs Facets When You Wink, Sparkle and Glow Like I Do

IN A WORLD where geometry and the facet rule supreme and cabochon and organic beauty are synonyms for “budget buy” it is perhaps not surprising it has taken so long for the designer world to appreciate my allure and character. In nature, I am found almost exclusively in muted colors such as white, gray, tan and cream. But with a touch of titanium or other metallic vapor or a dab of dye I sparkle like a slice of the Milky Way, a freshly opened can of caviar or a pot of gold coins. My often misspelled name, one of the more fun sounding in jewelry, comes from the Greek word for a lump, bump or hump. So look at this clump, and who do you see?

Who am I?
