Will Women Someday Be Buying Matching Diamond Engagement Rings for Men?

It’s something to ponder in light of an emerging trend in China.

With China’s share of diamond consumption in total global sales expected to increase to 20-25 percent in the next 10 years, it’s not just women whose taste for fine jewelry is increasing, as Forbes writes. The article says that men are also growing their appetite for diamonds, with 67 percent of men in China between the ages of 30-44 expressing their desire for them, according to a De Beers survey. The mining company is even pushing a new “his and hers” concept that encourages women to find a male wedding band that matches hers.

Which begs the question: Could such a marketing concept resonate here in America? Do American men belonging to Generations X and Y even want diamonds as much as their Chinese counterparts? We’ll see how stingy time is with those answers.
