The new concept is intended to drive cross shopping among other categories.

J.C. Penney says it will begin implementing a “center core layout” in more than one-third of its stores this spring that will turn its areas of fashion jewelry, accessories, footwear and handbags “into a vibrant shopping environment that complements Sephora inside J.C. Penney and the Fine Jewelry Store,” Chain Store Age magazine reports. The article says that this new layout was piloted in stores last year to “promote greater cross shopping” in the aforementioned areas. The test drive was a success, so the retailer is rolling out the concept on a larger scale. “As we continue to expand our center core concept to more stores, customers will discover compelling displays that bring accessories to life in a meaningful and dynamic way,” Jodie Johnson, J.C. Penney’s senior VP of footwear and handbags, told the magazine.

She Wanted to Spend More Time with Her Kids. She Called Wilkerson.

Your children are precious. More precious than gold? Absolutely! Just ask Lesley Ann Davis, owner of Lesley Ann Jewels, an independent jewelry store that — until the end of 2023 — had quite a following in Houston, Texas. To spend more time with her four sons, all in high school, she decided to close her store. Luckily, she was familiar with Wilkerson and called them as soon as she knew she wanted to move on to bigger, better and more family-focused things. Was she happy with her decision? Yes, she was. Says Davis, “Any owner looking to make that life change, looking to retire, looking to close, looking for a pause in their career, I would recommend Wilkerson. Hands down!”
