Jacobsen’s Jewelry in Salina, KS, is closing following a dispute over a $20,000 ring.

Store owner Keli Jacobsen made the announcement on social media, KWCH-TV reports. She said the closure is “due to what will be an ugly backlash, on a one sided story.”

Customer Cathy Chamberlin says she asked the store to sell her ring, appraised at over $20,000, on consignment. But a year later, she said there’s no sign of the ring.

Jacobsen says the ring is with the Gemological Institute of America, KWCH reports. Chamberlin said she has filed a report with the Salina Police Department and a complaint with the Kansas Attorney General’s Office.

Jacobsen wrote on social media:

Dear customers,
due to what will be an ugly backlash, on a one sided story, I will be closing the store. This is a sad day for me, and I cannot even defend myself according to my lawyer.
This store was my baby, and I have a family to support. I cannot begin to express the emotional damage someone can carelessly cause another human being, but here we are. And here I go.
To my customers I thank you.
Everything that is non consignment in the store is for sale! Come in, make me an offer, and tell me goodbye!
I appreciate each and every one of you.

She Wanted to Spend More Time with Her Kids. She Called Wilkerson.

Your children are precious. More precious than gold? Absolutely! Just ask Lesley Ann Davis, owner of Lesley Ann Jewels, an independent jewelry store that — until the end of 2023 — had quite a following in Houston, Texas. To spend more time with her four sons, all in high school, she decided to close her store. Luckily, she was familiar with Wilkerson and called them as soon as she knew she wanted to move on to bigger, better and more family-focused things. Was she happy with her decision? Yes, she was. Says Davis, “Any owner looking to make that life change, looking to retire, looking to close, looking for a pause in their career, I would recommend Wilkerson. Hands down!”
