Amsterdam Masterclass Lets Anyone Polish a Diamond

Teacher holds world’s record for making world’s smallest polished stone.

The Huffington Post UK visits Coster Diamonds in Amsterdam, where diamond polisher Pauline Willemse teaches a masterclass in which anyone can try diamond polishing. “I’ve had professors, technicians, people whose family were diamond polishers,” she says. The article says 60 percent of the diamond is lost in polishing, but that a well-polished doubles in value. Willemse knew from the age of 14 that she wanted to be a diamond polisher, and her fondness for small, neat handwriting prefigured the attention to detail she brings to polishing — she’s in the Guinness Book of Records for making the world’s smallest polished diamond.
