Butterflies Take Flight on the Red Carpet

MANY JEWELRY DESIGNERS are finding inspiration in the butterfly motif, which embodies the concept of transformation. It’s a suitable symbol for a time of change and renewal in the world. It’s being interpreted in yellow gold, like the one by James Banks (pictured at right), in which the artist uses a method called shakudō, which was once used to construct and decorate Japanese swords. We also see butterflies in platinum and other white metals, as in the ring that Mariah Carey wore when she was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in June.
