Zen Jeweler: Challenge Yourself Every Day

WHEN YOU GET up in the morning, and the store is behind last year’s figures, and the competition is moving in across the street, and you’re the owner, you blame the manager. If you’re the manager, you blame the economy or the sales staff. If you’re the sales staff, you blame the owner. It’s a vicious circle.

Start pointing the finger at yourself. If you’re the owner, you must be missing some marketing or merchandising strategies. If you’re the manager, you probably aren’t asking the sales staff for opinions. If you’re the sales staff, are you communicating where inventory is missing, or that clients aren’t finding what they want?

If you look around, you may see people who have reached a level of contentment.

Challenging yourself is mandatory. If you are tired of the challenge of selling for a living, or managing, or owning a business, sell it. Get out.  Take on something less challenging.

Stop blaming everyone else.
