Did This Customer Have Superhuman Vision … or Was He Seeing Things That Weren’t There?

Had a guy come in for an engagement ring; he had “been looking on the Internet.” I handed him a loose diamond (in locking tweezers) and he turned it over to look at it from the bottom. I told him to look from the top — it was a VVS stone. He did, then flipped it over again and said he would never be comfortable with that stone because he could see a line in the bottom of it (again, this was a VVS stone!). He looked at it two more times and pretty much said the same thing. I finally suggested that perhaps the Internet would be better suited to helping him.
