Jeweler Outsmarts ‘Old School’ Burglary Suspects, JSA Reports

A jeweler’s carefully designed security system helped police foil two burglary suspects, the Jewelers’ Security Alliance reports.

At 5:30 a.m., a jewelry store owner was called by her alarm company, and she then used her remote video to see two suspects smashing showcases and taking merchandise from her store. KJRH-TV reports that the crime happened at Abby’s Jewelry in Tulsa, OK. Police were called immediately.

The suspects left the mall and after a short chase were arrested, according to JSA. The suspects were identified as Clayton Randolph and Derrick Lamar Jones.

All of the jewelry was recovered and returned to the store owner.

KJRH reports that the men “are charged with second degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and possession of stolen property.”

In an alert titled “Two Old School Burglars Because of Due Diligence by Jeweler,” JSA notes  that Randolph “has a long history of breaking into malls and burglarizing jewelry stores dating back to the 1990s.”

“He was part of a gang known as the Three Minute Gang, which had a five year crime spree before they were arrested,” according to the alert. “In the current case, the suspects had driven from California and were driving a car with fake license plates.”

JSA continues: “This case is a good lesson for jewelers of the benefit of having cameras focused outside and inside their store that can be monitored remotely if they have an alarm signal, or simply to get a visual of their store for any reason. Jewelers must respond to all alarm signals, and remote video is a great tool.”
