The sighting: K-Pop superstars BTS turn heads wherever they go, but the group made an extra impact on the Grammy’s red carpet thanks to some well-placed sparkle.
The jewels: The BTS boys’ monochromatic suits are from Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2022 Menswear Collection, which did include the brooches when the looks were shown on the runway. I haven’t been able to find any outside jewelry credits for the runway looks, so I’m assuming the brooches are LV as well.
Each piece is designed as an asymmetrical spill of stones, worn so that the line of the piece is oriented diagonally. The placement and alignment are interesting, since brooches on suit jackets often feature vertical or horizontal lines that echo the line of a lapel or pocket. These brooches occupy much less traditional locations, across the middle of each double-breasted jacket.
The trends: With a prodigious fanbase who calls themselves the “BTS Army,” I think it’s pretty safe to say that any look these lads wear has the potential to start a trend. We have seen a very satisfying number of men rocking jewelry on red carpets lately, including on suit jackets, but this is the first time I’ve noticed any of the bejeweled gentlemen choosing to match with their friends.
What do we think? I admit that it’s possible these are actually elaborate buttons or strategically placed embellishments on the suits, but I’m going to continue to assume they’re truly brooches because that makes me happy. In fact, I think all groups of men should wear matching brooches in public from now on. Let it be so.
