Rooney Mara Was Inspiring in the Subtle Shine of Antique Diamonds

I CAN’T REMEMBER THE last time I saw Rooney Mara in a piece of jewelry at an awards show. She is always dressed in awe-inspiring gowns that accentuate her ethereal aura. But this time, her pale Galliano gown was the perfect background for not one but two antique necklaces from Fred Leighton and for some gorgeous rings.

Her stylist chose well. If I were to dress Mara, it would definitely be in antique jewelry like these necklaces set with old diamonds. The subtle glow and proportion befitted her lithe frame and her vibe. (Although she was quite fierce in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.)

The necklaces layered effortlessly together and were the just the right proportion for her. From the top, she wears an Edwardian/Belle Epoque period diamond and platinum choker, circa 1910, and underneath a 19th century diamond fringe necklace. On her fingers she wore a variety of Fred Leighton diamond and platinum rings.

Against the champagne background, she looked almost as if she just stepped out of a Jane Austen novel. But once she moved around, she looked utterly modern and timelessly elegant — and the jewels also added that soft candlelight shimmer that antique diamonds often do. I, for one, would like to see her in just this amount of jewelry whenever she steps onto the red, or any color, carpet.
