Not too long ago, I re-set a customer’s diamond in a new pendant. I polished it along with six or seven other items and put them in the ultrasonic. Later, when I took them out, her pendant was nowhere to be found. We looked high and low. We took apart the dust collector, the sink, etc. but still no pendant. This was not an overly expensive piece, but let’s face it, no one wants to tell their customer their jewelry was lost. Later that evening, while in the car with my wife. I told her what had happened. She said, “Did you check the cuff of your pants?” I slid my hand into the cuff and, without having to even feel around, put my fingers on something. You guessed it, her pendant. Apparently, when I slid the items I was polishing into the palm of my hand, this pendant missed and fell into the cuff unbeknownst to me. Not only that, it stayed there for the whole day instead of falling out at any number of locations. Just dumb luck? I’m not sure!
