True Tales: The Lost Watch Battery

Had a fellow come in one day and ask if I remembered him. I really didn’t so he continued on about the battery that I had installed in his watch. I suspected something had gone awry and I was in for a complaint. He stated that he had lost the watch only a week after I installed the battery. I expressed my sympathy for his loss and tried to figure out how this was going to be my problem. Then I asked what he thought I could do for him. He wanted to know if he could have a refund for the battery because it was of no use to him anymore. I was searching for the right words and the only thing that came out was, “No problem — bring in the battery and I’ll be happy to give you a refund.” To which he promptly replied, “But I lost that, too!”
