Woman Proves Wedding Band She Bought from Zales Wasn’t Real Gold, Gets Refund

The ring didn’t stand up to an acid test.

A woman who bought a 10 karat gold wedding band from a Zales store got an unpleasant surprise when she found out the ring wasn’t gold after all, WSPA-TV reports. According to the news station, the woman got a hunch the ring wasn’t gold after she noticed some flaking and discoloration, so she asked a local pawn shop to evaluate it. After the pawn shop performed an acid test, “there was no gold left, the acid ate it completely off the stone,” the manager of the pawn shop says. When the woman asked for her money back, Zales obliged and issued the following statement to the news outlet:

“Integrity is a core value of our company, and the trust of our guests is of the utmost importance to us. As such, we have diligent processes in place to ensure appropriate tracking and security of all guest merchandise brought in for repair or service. In any instance where a guest presents a concern, we work with them directly to ensure a satisfactory resolution reflective of our commitment to each and every guest.”
