Jeweler Sentenced to 270 Days in Jail for Stealing from Clients

A jeweler in Irvine, CA, has been sentenced to 270 days in jail for stealing rings from customers.

Daniel Cervantes, 30, admitted to 14 counts of grand theft and eight counts of petty theft, MyNewsLA.com reports.

Cervantes operated Cervantes Jewelers and Diamonds are Forever.

As part of a plea agreement, his sentence will allow him “time to pursue house arrest or doing his time in a city jail on a schedule that allows him to keep working,” according to the news outlet.

Cervantes has paid more than $21,000 in restitution to victims and is expected to continue maing payments.

The customers had asked Cervantes to perform jobs such as resizing or polishing the rings. One of the pieces was an heirloom engagement ring dating to 1892.

Cervantes was arrested in February 2017.
