WHAT DOES seven-time Olympic medalist Simon Biles have in common with Blake Lively, Hailey Bieber and Kourtney Kardashian? A stunning oval diamond engagement ring. If three makes a trend, then does a fourth make it a super trend? I just made that up. But ovals have been trending for quite some time. Kardashian received her oval in October 2021 and we began seeing a large number of independent designers working with this shape more frequently. It is sure to be on the radar of brides-to-be as well as jewelers, if it isn’t already.

Biles’s boyfriend, NFL player Jonathan Owens, popped the question on Valentine’s Day. And this journalist is just gushy enough to find that extremely sentimental — it’s a memory that will endure as one of the most significant days the couple will spend together.

Like most celebrities, Biles posted the ring on Instagram and shared moments of the proposal, such as Owens down on one knee. Unlike many celebrity rings, we immediately knew who designed it — Zo Frost, who also posted the ring on his Instagram. The jeweler told Page Six, “Jonathan has been a client and friend for a few years and I had the pleasure of helping him to create this very special ring.”

“He and I started the process together a few months ago to select the perfect diamond for Simone that was handpicked by Jonathan,” Frost continued. “He wanted to add a special touch to the ring by adding a halo around the oval diamond.”

The ring is a beauty — a 3-carat oval diamond with F color and VVS2 clarity! Now that’s an engagement ring I wouldn’t have to think twice about. What makes it even more special and gives it more of a backstory is that the couple and the jeweler are based in and/or grew up in Houston.

When Biles showed the oval solitaire ring on her Instagram, she captioned the photos with, “THE EASIEST YES. I can’t wait to spend forever & ever with you, you’re everything I dreamed of and more! let’s get married FIANCÉ 💍🥺🥲🤎.”

This Third-Generation Jeweler Was Ready for Retirement. He Called Wilkerson

Retirement is never easy, especially when it means the end to a business that was founded in 1884. But for Laura and Sam Sipe, it was time to put their own needs first. They decided to close J.C. Sipe Jewelers, one of Indianapolis’ most trusted names in fine jewelry, and call Wilkerson. “Laura and I decided the conditions were right,” says Sam. Wilkerson handled every detail in their going-out-of-business sale, from marketing to manning the sales floor. “The main goal was to sell our existing inventory that’s all paid for and turn that into cash for our retirement,” says Sam. “It’s been very, very productive.” Would they recommend Wilkerson to other jewelers who want to enjoy their golden years? Absolutely! “Call Wilkerson,” says Laura. “They can help you achieve your goals so you’ll be able to move into retirement comfortably.”
