What I’ve Learned: John Morgan

Luck isn’t something you run into, it’s something you make.

After 33 years in the retail jewelry world, I think the most important thing I’ve learned is that we make a lot of our own luck. It’s a lesson I’d like to think could be learned in most any field; that hard work, a little courage, careful contemplation of our choices and equally careful reflection on the decisions we’ve made, combined with a genuine regard for the people around us, creates much of the opportunity that others think of as just luck of the draw — or even worse, as something they’re naturally entitled to, but somehow unjustly denied — rather than as the hard-earned shot at success it really is.
