A workshop will be held May 19.

(Press Release) MUMBAI – Gemological Science International is hosting a series of free two-hour jewelry design workshops from January through May. Available to entrepreneurs, beginners and students through to advanced professionals, the courses teach practical techniques for jewelry design, including drafting, shading, design theory and how to illustrate shapes and forms using several mediums.

GSI’s head of education, Raja Gondkar (also a 30-year industry veteran), said, “Our workshops introduce those interested in a possible career in jewelry design to the basic skills of this great art form in an easy and interesting manner. We hope students leave with the encouragement and confidence to use proper form when designing their own piece of jewelry.”

The first workshop, held on Jan. 23, was focused on free-hand jewelry design and helped students think out of the box as well as take inspiration from various forms. Through freehand sketching, students were able to visualize their creative ideas and modify them quickly and confidently via different stencils and tools.

Rohit Lahoti, a student attendee, said, “Today’s course was an especially enriching experience where I was able to work at my own pace without feeling the pressure of being in a typical, formal classroom environment. The staff was helpful and I am excited about coming to future sessions.”

The third session on Saturday, Feb. 17, also featured a career talk with award-winning Indian designer Sushma Kalzunkar Sawant, followed by a workshop on manual design.

These free workshops are meant to be an introduction to five level technical courses that will be offered at GSI beginning in June.

Family Legacy, New Chapter: How Wilkerson Turns 89 Years of History Into Future Success

After 89 years of serving the Albany community, Harold Finkle Your Jeweler faced a pivotal decision. For third-generation owner Justin Finkle, the demanding hours of running a small business were taking precious time away from his young family. "After 23 years, I decided this was the time for me," Finkle explains. But closing a business with nearly nine decades of inventory and customer relationships isn't something easily managed alone. Wilkerson's comprehensive approach transformed this challenging transition into a remarkable success story. Their strategic planning handled everything from advertising and social media to inventory management and staffing — elements that would overwhelm most jewelers attempting to navigate a closing sale independently. The results speak volumes. "Wilkerson gave us three different tiers of potential goals," Finkle notes. "We've reached that third tier, that highest goal already, and we still have two weeks left of the sale." The partnership didn't just meet financial objectives—it exceeded them ahead of schedule.
