CHUNKY CHAINS ARE in, and Gwyneth Paltrow was recently spotted wearing Briony Raymond’s jumbo 14K gold long rectangular link chain with a vintage vibe. It’s interesting how the most popular chains give a nod to the past yet are thoroughly modern when worn with contemporary fashion. Paltrow wore hers with a delicate strand of what looked like pearls or small beads. The juxtaposition worked, as does her minimalist approach to wearing jewelry. She tends to choose one area of the body to bejewel and wear the perfect outfit as a backdrop, complementing her natural beauty. She never looks overdone, thanks to her stylist Elizabeth Saltzman — oh, and her radiant complexion. Have you noticed she just gets more stunning with age? Wish I knew the secret to her fountain of youth. Maybe I need to follow the regimen she promotes on Goop, her lifestyle shop. But I stray. The chain is in yellow gold, which continues to be the metal of choice for most, but the necklace is also available in rose and white gold.

Paltrow has been wearing chunky chains since we started seeing them coming out of the studios of independent designers like Beth Budgdaycay of Foundrae. Paltrow recently wore Foundrae’s chains with her personalized medallions that journaled her life. She has been on trend and also knows how to curate some of the best jewels for Goop.

While the look might be too understated for those who subscribe to the “more is more” approach to jewelry, the subtle, pared-down yet bold feeling of the necklace is enough with a more delicate layering choker for a “get this look” moment.

It’s a look that I would want to wear much of the time.
