Vacation Issue

The magazine you hold in your hands could be your first step toward a summer vacation.

Every year in July, instore kicks things down a notch with our Summer Reading Issue. Over the years, we’ve developed something of a pattern — one year, we’ll do a big “True Tales” special; other years (like this one), we present you with a package of the best industry-related fiction and literary non-fiction we can come up with.

The idea is that this is an edition that you will take to the beach, sprinkle with sand, spill suntan oil onto, splash with seawater. By the time you get home, this issue should be twice its original size.

Read. Relax. Have fun.

Fact is, the favorite books we own are not leatherbound first editions with gilt pages and silk moire endpapers. The ones we love most have somebody’s phone number on the cover, an old telephone bill stuck inside as a bookmark, notes climbing up, down and around the margins, and a giant mustard stain gluing two pages together.

Let this be that issue for you. Let this one be a vacation.

Speaking of vacations, be sure to set aside time for a real vacation this month or next. You deserve it. More than that, you need it.

Take one week. Let the minions run the store. (To all the minions reading this, we call you that because we love you.) Trust us, they can do the job. And the more they do it, the better they’ll get.

Wishing you the very best business …

She Wanted to Spend More Time with Her Kids. She Called Wilkerson.

Your children are precious. More precious than gold? Absolutely! Just ask Lesley Ann Davis, owner of Lesley Ann Jewels, an independent jewelry store that — until the end of 2023 — had quite a following in Houston, Texas. To spend more time with her four sons, all in high school, she decided to close her store. Luckily, she was familiar with Wilkerson and called them as soon as she knew she wanted to move on to bigger, better and more family-focused things. Was she happy with her decision? Yes, she was. Says Davis, “Any owner looking to make that life change, looking to retire, looking to close, looking for a pause in their career, I would recommend Wilkerson. Hands down!”
