Video: Father of Alleged Jewelry Thief Returns Rings, Apologizes

A jeweler in Villa Park, CA, opened an envelope to find two rings that had been stolen from his store — along with an apology.

The theft took place at Jewelry Designs By Steven, KABC-TV reports. Haven Gramlich was helping two women when she noticed a ring in one of their bags.

“I see a ring in there and I was like, ‘Oh, excuse me, I’m gonna need that ring, that’s our ring.’ And she’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry, so sorry,'” Gramlich was quoted saying.

Still, after the women left, Gramlich noticed a $10,000 ring missing. She ran outside and saw the women in an SUV, and she was able to snap some photos.

Three days later, owner Steven Hurley discovered an envelope that came through the mail slot, KABC reports. It contained two rings and a note from someone who identified himself as the women’s father. He claimed the rings were taken by mistake. He’s also called the store a couple of times to apologize.

“Thank you, you know, that’s awesome that we got the rings back, but I think that they were honestly scared that they were gonna go to prison,” Gramlich said.
