Natasha Lyonne may have been wearing Givenchy at the 2023 Golden Globes and Gucci at the 2023 Critics Choice awards and may have been styled by one of my favorite stylists, but both black gowns had a ’90s edge that seemed to miss — although her jewels were right on target.

As a one-time fashion editor turned jewelry journalist, I usually stick to the jewelry unless I want to gush over the gown. I am not of the mind to do worst-dressed, but I am confused by how many magazines put Lyonne on their best-dressed lists. So before I sound more catty, let’s get on to her jewelry, which included some of the most creative and inspired jewelry by David Webb that I’ve seen. This brilliant brand, which loaned the colorful and unique jewels, took the darker edge off of the gowns and upstaged some of the diamond statement looks that other A-listers wore. My favorite was the David Webb wide emerald bracelet that Lyonne wore to the Globes. During our recent coverage of the red carpet, I have talked about double bangles and cuffs and wide singular bracelets making a comeback, and this is an eye-popping piece.

At the 2023 Critics Choice Awards, the David Webb 18K gold and platinum carved Lion Coral bracelet with pear-shaped emeralds, brilliant-cut diamonds, black enamel was also a winner. The other extraordinary piece was the bold coral, onyx and diamond necklace, which had a ton of presence and was a welcome change from the white-on-white diamond styles.

Hail to the original innovative designer David Webb and the company that owns his name and keeps his imaginative and inspirational jewelry alive.

She Wanted to Spend More Time with Her Kids. She Called Wilkerson.

Your children are precious. More precious than gold? Absolutely! Just ask Lesley Ann Davis, owner of Lesley Ann Jewels, an independent jewelry store that — until the end of 2023 — had quite a following in Houston, Texas. To spend more time with her four sons, all in high school, she decided to close her store. Luckily, she was familiar with Wilkerson and called them as soon as she knew she wanted to move on to bigger, better and more family-focused things. Was she happy with her decision? Yes, she was. Says Davis, “Any owner looking to make that life change, looking to retire, looking to close, looking for a pause in their career, I would recommend Wilkerson. Hands down!”
