DIAMONDS AND MORE diamonds were definitely Andra Day’s best friend at the Clooney Foundation for Justice’s Albie Awards. She was dripping in Briony Raymond’s jewelry, including 18K white gold and diamond extra large Posey Bouquet earrings, 18K white gold and diamond Posey choker and Three Row Posey diamond cuff.

Although I would have thought the length of the earrings and the closeness of the necklace would be overkill, it all worked — Day looked radiant.

Additionally, while we are not used to seeing matching sets on younger actresses, such looks are starting to become a trend on the red carpet. They recall the demi-suites of the mid-20th century. They might not speak to personalization, but they do speak to the desire to dress up — the more sparkle, the better. What’s alluring about Raymond’s pieces worn as a set is that, as a collector and retailer of vintage jewelry as well as a designer of bespoke and production pieces, she knows how to style the her creations so that they evoke an old world charm with a contemporary sensibility.

Andra Day is a true beauty who adds her own sparkle to the jewels.

When There’s No Succession Plan, Call Wilkerson

Bob Wesley, owner of Robert C. Wesley Jewelers in Scottsdale, Ariz., was a third-generation jeweler. When it was time to enjoy life on the other side of the counter, he weighed his options. His lease was nearing renewal time and with no succession plan, he decided it was time to call Wilkerson. There was plenty of inventory to sell and at first, says Wesley, he thought he might try to manage a sale himself. But he’s glad he didn’t. “There’s no way I could have done this as well as Wilkerson,” he says. Wilkerson took responsibility for the entire event, with every detail — from advertising to accounting — done, dusted and managed by the Wilkerson team. “It’s the complete package,” he says of the Wilkerson method of helping jewelers to easily go on to the next phase of their lives. “There’s no way any retailer can duplicate what they’ve done.”
