Jewel-Craft Nearly Doubles Its Space

(PRESS RELEASE) ERLANGER, KY — Jewel-Craft’s story is the definition of the American dream: a family owned and operated business that has spanned four generations. Established in 1947, the company is now expanding to a 50,000-square-foot facility, almost doubling in area and adding 10 offices for managers and administration. The new space and upgraded technology in the facility have helped elevate Jewel-Craft’s services by improving communication, expanding workspaces and installing new systems.

Jewel-Craft has used the 20,000-square-foot expansion to clear out the shop and lay out all of the departments in a more efficient manner, keeping in mind “lean” manufacturing and workflow. Because the last Jewel-Craft home was at capacity, the company was not able to dedicate rooms to departments such as enameling, customer service or data entry. Now, each has its own room, helping the departments run efficiently. For example, Jewel-Craft’s upgraded facility now has a new clean room dedicated to plating, ensuring the delivery of consistent quality results and improving maintenance of the area.

During the expansion, all departments were moved, making way for a new three-bay secure loading dock with semi-truck access as well as a large shipping and receiving area. New systems such as an improved polishing vacuum system as well as upgraded security entrances have been incorporated into the main level of the building.

A new camera system has resulted in an upgraded security presence in the facility, tracking work throughout the shop and helping to keep processes and workspaces organized. Also added are employee areas in the facility, including a smart-age cafeteria, more bathrooms, a fitness area and an outdoor patio.

“There’s something that my grandfather and father always said, ‘you either grow or you die,'” said Benet Wesdorp, COO, president, and co-owner of the jewelry repair business. “We have kept that thought, to where we want to keep pushing forward, and we never did look back.”

This Third-Generation Jeweler Was Ready for Retirement. He Called Wilkerson

Retirement is never easy, especially when it means the end to a business that was founded in 1884. But for Laura and Sam Sipe, it was time to put their own needs first. They decided to close J.C. Sipe Jewelers, one of Indianapolis’ most trusted names in fine jewelry, and call Wilkerson. “Laura and I decided the conditions were right,” says Sam. Wilkerson handled every detail in their going-out-of-business sale, from marketing to manning the sales floor. “The main goal was to sell our existing inventory that’s all paid for and turn that into cash for our retirement,” says Sam. “It’s been very, very productive.” Would they recommend Wilkerson to other jewelers who want to enjoy their golden years? Absolutely! “Call Wilkerson,” says Laura. “They can help you achieve your goals so you’ll be able to move into retirement comfortably.”
