The sighting: On February 9th, LeBron James broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record for all-time NBA career scoring record. After the game, the triumphant athlete changed into a slick black suit accessorized with a very special brooch.

The jewels: Designed by Maor Official in collaboration with artist Olivia Steele, the brooch is 18K yellow gold with the message “STAY PRESENT” spelled out in black diamonds. The overall design resembles a road sign, with further black diamonds lining its edges and continuing in a line down below.
James paired the pin with several sparkling chains, a small stack of bracelets, and a wide smile.

The trends: This is a fantastic example of meaningful motto jewelry in action. This was clearly more than a style choice: James wouldn’t have chosen this piece for this moment unless its message paired perfectly with how he wanted to feel on his big day.

What do we think? I don’t follow basketball. I wouldn’t even know this had happened if my husband and his best friend hadn’t been so excited about James’ record-breaking moment that they watched the whole thing together while on video chat with each other in my living room.

However…the idea of this big burly basketball legend thinking “hmm, what do I want to wear after I break the record for all time points scored in the NBA?” and then choosing this brooch, with this motto on it, is just so adorable and heartwarming that I couldn’t resist looking into it further.

Judgement: 14/10 for this well-accessorized, very accomplished sports gentleman

This Third-Generation Jeweler Was Ready for Retirement. He Called Wilkerson

Retirement is never easy, especially when it means the end to a business that was founded in 1884. But for Laura and Sam Sipe, it was time to put their own needs first. They decided to close J.C. Sipe Jewelers, one of Indianapolis’ most trusted names in fine jewelry, and call Wilkerson. “Laura and I decided the conditions were right,” says Sam. Wilkerson handled every detail in their going-out-of-business sale, from marketing to manning the sales floor. “The main goal was to sell our existing inventory that’s all paid for and turn that into cash for our retirement,” says Sam. “It’s been very, very productive.” Would they recommend Wilkerson to other jewelers who want to enjoy their golden years? Absolutely! “Call Wilkerson,” says Laura. “They can help you achieve your goals so you’ll be able to move into retirement comfortably.”
