5 Things to Tell Yourself When ‘The Customer Is Always Right’ Isn’t Working

You’ve certainly heard the cliche that the customer is always right.

And if you’ve worked in retail for more than, say, 30 minutes, you know it just isn’t true.

Sure, in most cases it’s best to proceed as if it were. But that can be hard to remember when you’re being berated by someone who’s clearly wrong, wrong, wrong.

In that spirit, we present this short list of things you could tell yourself, as a customer rants at you, if the mantra “The customer is always right” is no longer working:

  • “The customer is bigger than me.”
  • “The customer knows tae kwon do.”
  • “The customer enlists the services of a very good personal injury lawyer.”
  • “The customer is always wrong, but luckily I’m a compulsive liar.”
  • “The customer can always go to Yelp and say terrible things about our store.”
