Authorities in Houston have arrested an 18-year-old Marine they believe stole more than $500,000 in merchandise from jewelry stores.

Marcelo Majeed Hernandez was booked into the Harris County Jail, where he was charged with first-degree felony theft, according to the office of Mark Herman, Harris County constable for Precinct 4.

“He was being taken into custody and his dog tags fell out. He did tell us he was in the U.S. military,” according to Fox26 Houston.

According to a press release from Herman:

On October 13, 2023, deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded to the 23900 block of the Northwest Fwy in reference to the burglary of a jewelry store, David Yurman Jewelry. After a very thorough investigation, deputies were able to identify the suspect as Marcelo Majeed. He was located on April 11, 2024 and taken into custody. Deputies have recovered the majority of the stolen jewelry and are continuing to work on locating the last few pieces.
