The Met Gala celebrated the opening of the exhibit “America: A Lexicon of Fashion” on Sept. 13 with celebrities dressed in everything red, white and blue — and especially white for diamonds. Young A-listers wore looks that gave a nod to the Statue of Liberty, Western garb and a mix that featured the melting pot that America represents. But none was so appealing as the looks that recalled Old Hollywood glamour.

Billie Eilish, who traditionally dresses androgynously, went a different route and channeled Marilyn Monroe in her famous role in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes when she showed up in an Oscar de la Renta gown and dripping in diamonds on her wrist, fingers and ears, all by Cartier High Jewelry.

Although retailers have been marketing the Monroe-in-diamonds look for decades, Billie’s was more youthful, playful, stackable and relevant for today’s consumer. Monroe was covered in faux diamonds in the film, but mostly with chokers and bracelets that she wore on high gloves on her wrist. Refreshingly delicate, the diamond pieces that Billie wore to the Met could stand on their own for everyday wear or be purchased to wear in multiples. One thing is for certain, they are still a “girl’s best friend.”

She Wanted to Spend More Time with Her Kids. She Called Wilkerson.

Your children are precious. More precious than gold? Absolutely! Just ask Lesley Ann Davis, owner of Lesley Ann Jewels, an independent jewelry store that — until the end of 2023 — had quite a following in Houston, Texas. To spend more time with her four sons, all in high school, she decided to close her store. Luckily, she was familiar with Wilkerson and called them as soon as she knew she wanted to move on to bigger, better and more family-focused things. Was she happy with her decision? Yes, she was. Says Davis, “Any owner looking to make that life change, looking to retire, looking to close, looking for a pause in their career, I would recommend Wilkerson. Hands down!”
