A Glittering Legacy: Panowicz Jewelers Celebrates 75 Years

(PRESS RELEASE) After school each day, a young girl would take the bus to her family’s store first located off Capital Way near Sylvester Park. She would eagerly help with anything and everything in this local jewelry and gem shop. Over the years, she steadily learned more and more about her family’s business: Panowicz Jewelers. Now the third-generation owner, Leslie Panowicz is proud to continue the family legacy, celebrating the 75th anniversary of Panowicz Jewelers in June 2023.

“I remember growing up in the store; I’d come after school and help out my dad each day,” shared Leslie. “We are so excited to celebrate our 75th anniversary and invite you to join us!”

To celebrate this momentous milestone, the community is invited to participate in several ways:

  1. Participate in our 75th Anniversary Across Olympia Scavenger Hunt for your chance to win prizes, including pearls, diamonds, and even a private party for 10 at Panowicz!
  2. Bring in your Panowicz Jewelers memorabilia to be featured in our anniversary section of the store.
  3. Share a video testimonial of how Panowicz Jewelers has been a part of the special moments of your life.
  4. Stop by Panowicz for extra special events and your chance to win a 3/4ct Hearts on Fire diamond necklace. We are celebrating for a month with festivities June 13-July 15.

Founded in 1948 by the late Anton Panowicz, Sr., after the conclusion of his service in WWII he embarked on a journey that would leave an indelible mark on our community. With humble beginnings, Panowicz Jewelers started as a small family-owned business – a labor of love – offering watches, clocks, china and jewelry. Over the years, their unwavering commitment to excellence and customer service propelled the store to new heights, earning it a reputation as the go-to destination for those seeking beauty and sophistication. You don’t need to travel to a big city to find that special piece of jewelry or that big diamond ring! The store features luxury jewelry designers from across the world, with both classic and unique, on-trend collections.

“We have so much fun going to jewelry shows, curating unique collections and even shopping specifically for clients,” shared Kandy Watters, store manager. “We love to find pieces that set us apart from the crowd. One example is how Leslie and Isabelle, our gemologist, travel to Antwerp, Belgium, to hand select diamonds from the diamond capital of the world.”

Whether it is engagement rings that symbolize the beginning of a lifelong journey, anniversary gifts that celebrate enduring love, or custom-made creations that mark special milestones, Panowicz Jewelers has played a significant role in shaping countless unforgettable moments. Its pieces have become tokens of love, joy, and celebration, passed down through generations, forever preserving the stories of our community.

One thing that is unique about Panowicz Jewelers is that they are a certified American Gem Society (AGS) store. AGS is a prestigious organization dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of ethics, knowledge, and professionalism in the jewelry industry. Panowicz also has three goldsmiths and a certified gemologist on staff allowing them to offer many services in store that other retailers would outsource.

Beyond its exceptional craftsmanship, Panowicz Jewelers has been a pillar of support for our community throughout its 75-year existence. Generously contributing to local charities, sponsoring community events, and fostering relationships with neighboring businesses, it has played an active role in the community. If you attend a nonprofit fundraiser, there is a strong chance you will see Panowicz Jewelers as the raffle sponsor. They donate high quality, in-demand jewelry items so nonprofit organizations can raise additional funds through raffling off the jewelry. Leslie estimates they help local nonprofit organizations raise more than $75,000 each year.

Its presence has woven a tapestry of memories, connecting individuals and generations. With each piece lovingly chosen and every interaction marked by warmth and sincerity, Panowicz Jewelers has created a sense of belonging and community. The smiles it has inspired, the tears of joy it has witnessed, and the bonds it has strengthened are testaments to its enduring legacy. The next time you are in downtown Olympia, stop by the store to see what is the latest trends and fashion in jewelry.

She Wanted to Spend More Time with Her Kids. She Called Wilkerson.

Your children are precious. More precious than gold? Absolutely! Just ask Lesley Ann Davis, owner of Lesley Ann Jewels, an independent jewelry store that — until the end of 2023 — had quite a following in Houston, Texas. To spend more time with her four sons, all in high school, she decided to close her store. Luckily, she was familiar with Wilkerson and called them as soon as she knew she wanted to move on to bigger, better and more family-focused things. Was she happy with her decision? Yes, she was. Says Davis, “Any owner looking to make that life change, looking to retire, looking to close, looking for a pause in their career, I would recommend Wilkerson. Hands down!”
