The sighting: Everyone was talking about the sheer shirt that actor Jeremy Allen White wore to the Golden Globes, where he won best actor for his tv show The Bear, but the real star of the outfit was hidden in the actor’s pocket for the majority of the evening.

The jewels: White’s secret pocket friend is a delightful vintage Van Cleef and Arpels bear brooch from Briony Raymond New York, an homage to the name of the actor’s award-winning show. The little ursine beauty is mid-century, 18K yellow gold, and features 3.24 carats of yellow sapphires, diamonds, and emerald eyes.

Why was it in his pocket, rather than visible? According to The Daily Mail, the actor wanted to carry the vintage bear with him as a hidden good luck charm.

The trends: Carrying a bejeweled VCA animal brooch in one’s pocket for moral support during important professional events is niche celebrity behavior that’s not likely to take off with the general public.

That said, animal motifs have been very popular in jewelry lately. It’s a very understandable trend: jewelry with a face is easier to bond with, and jewelry that you can imagine is a portable gem-covered friend is the most appealing of all.

What do we think? First of all, this is delightful. The little bear brooch is both gorgeous and adorable, and it makes me smile to see this gruff man holding it up so tenderly.

I don’t know if the brooch was originally presented to White as an option for his lapel or if White simply spotted the piece on his stylist’s tray and decided he needed this shiny bear to keep him company on his big night, but the entire thing is very whimsical and endearing.

Although I must admit: it would have looked good on his lapel, too.

Judgement: 12/10 for an adorably eccentric jewelry moment.

This Third-Generation Jeweler Was Ready for Retirement. He Called Wilkerson

Retirement is never easy, especially when it means the end to a business that was founded in 1884. But for Laura and Sam Sipe, it was time to put their own needs first. They decided to close J.C. Sipe Jewelers, one of Indianapolis’ most trusted names in fine jewelry, and call Wilkerson. “Laura and I decided the conditions were right,” says Sam. Wilkerson handled every detail in their going-out-of-business sale, from marketing to manning the sales floor. “The main goal was to sell our existing inventory that’s all paid for and turn that into cash for our retirement,” says Sam. “It’s been very, very productive.” Would they recommend Wilkerson to other jewelers who want to enjoy their golden years? Absolutely! “Call Wilkerson,” says Laura. “They can help you achieve your goals so you’ll be able to move into retirement comfortably.”
