The sighting: Singer Katy Perry performed at the recent VinFuture Prize Ceremony, an award that honors inventors and academic researchers. Perry chose a dramatic flowing lilac gown and Anabela Chan earrings for the performance.

The jewels: Perry is wearing Anabela Chan’s Diamond Supernova earrings. The dramatic statement earrings are 18K white gold with rhodium vermeil and feature 46 ivory cultured pearls, 2 pear cut white sapphires, 18 custom shield-cut simulated diamond briolette drops, and 238 round, oval, and pear-cut simulated white diamonds.

As with all of Anabela Chan’s designs, the earrings feature only lab-grown and created gemstones. The style is listed on the designer’s website for $5,166.

The trends: Statement earrings are having a major moment, and these sizable stunners are certainly that. Their use of atypical materials (lab grown and created gemstones) is also very on trend for sustainability.

What do we think? I love this for two reasons. The first is simple: these earrings are spectacular and their over-the-top glamour is a perfect match for Perry’s flowing gown.

The second reason is that the earrings match the theme of the event! Anabela Chan prides themselves on being “the first fine jewellery brand in the world to champion laboratory-grown and created gemstones with high jewellery design, artisanal craftsmanship and a focus on ethical and sustainable innovations.”

I can’t think of a more appropriate choice to accessorize a performance at an awards ceremony for scientific innovation, can you?

Judgement: 18/10 for appropriate and gorgeous earrings that I covet immensely.

What do YOU think?

This Third-Generation Jeweler Was Ready for Retirement. He Called Wilkerson

Retirement is never easy, especially when it means the end to a business that was founded in 1884. But for Laura and Sam Sipe, it was time to put their own needs first. They decided to close J.C. Sipe Jewelers, one of Indianapolis’ most trusted names in fine jewelry, and call Wilkerson. “Laura and I decided the conditions were right,” says Sam. Wilkerson handled every detail in their going-out-of-business sale, from marketing to manning the sales floor. “The main goal was to sell our existing inventory that’s all paid for and turn that into cash for our retirement,” says Sam. “It’s been very, very productive.” Would they recommend Wilkerson to other jewelers who want to enjoy their golden years? Absolutely! “Call Wilkerson,” says Laura. “They can help you achieve your goals so you’ll be able to move into retirement comfortably.”
