The sighting: Actress and singer Selena Gomez recently revealed a new piece of jewelry: a wraparound ring with the letter B, worn on the ring finger of her left hand. This bling made its appearance right around the same time that Gomez revealed her relationship with music producer Benny Blanco, so fans are assuming the two facts are connected.

The jewels: Gomez’s B ring is a wraparound take on the toi-et-moi style, featuring a letter and a diamond. According to Page Six, the ring is a custom style by Jacquie Aiche, featuring 0.44 TCW of diamonds and valued at $3,250.

The trends: Toi-et-moi rings have been big for the past few years, and while this piece isn’t a traditional example of that style, I think it still counts as close enough to check that trend box. Sentimental styles are also trendy: shoppers of every generation love the idea of a piece that is meaningful to their hearts as well as delightful to their eyes.

As to whether or not this specific style has trend potential? Just google “Selena Gomez B ring” and you’ll see how many knockoffs there already are.

What do we think? There’s nothing revolutionary about the design of this ring, but you have to admit that it’s a very sweet piece. Selena Gomez has had only the loveliest things to say about her new B-initialed beau, Benny Blanco, and the fact that she’s been spotted with this ring on her ring finger multiple times suggest that the relationship really is going strong.

My question here is about the placement. Was it Blanco’s idea for her to wear his initial on her ring finger, or was it a surprise to him? When Selena shows Benny Blanco the B on her ring finger, does she joke about saving the real estate for an engagement ring? Are they treating it as a promise ring, or is the placement irrelevant? We can only speculate.

Judgement: 14/10 for a very cute sentimental piece.

You Wouldn’t Cut Your Own Hair. Why Run Your Own Retirement Sale?

After being in business for over a quarter of a century, Wayne Reid, owner of Wayne Jewelers in Wayne, Pennsylvania, decided it was time for a little “me time.” He says, “I’ve reached a point in my life where it’s time to slow down, enjoy a lot of things outside of the jewelry industry. It just seemed to be the right time.” He chose Wilkerson to handle his retirement sale because of their reputation and results. With financial goals exceeded, Reid says he made the right choice selecting Wilkerson to handle the sale. “They made every effort to push our jewelry to the forefront of the showcases,” he says, lauding Wilkerson for their finesse and expertise. Would he recommend them to other jewelers who want to make room for new merchandise, expand their business or like him, decide to call it a day? Absolutely he says, equating trying to do this kind of sale with cutting your own hair. “The results are going to happen but not as well as if you have a professional like Wilkerson do the job for you.”
