Here’s a new word for you: gemmelsmerch.
Gemmelsmerch is the force that distracts a person from what he or she wants to or ought to be doing. And it is as pervasive and powerful as gravity. Sources of gemmelsmerch include email, texts, phone, magazines, mail, cell phones, TV, mess in your office — essentially anything that distracts you from the task at hand.
Solutions to gemmelsmerch include software that keeps you away from websites that cause you problems, noise-cancelling headphones that allow you to concentrate on your work, a closed and locked door, a phone set to silence and no vibration.
Your job today: reduce the gemmelsmerch around you. And yes, right now, your faithful blogger is drowning in gemmelsmerch, hence the brevity of today’s blog post.
