True TalesA Jeweler Met This Verbal Threat with Police Published 1 year agoon August 17, 2018By INSTORE Staff Instore September 2018 Issue Share Tweet I got a call from a husband in the middle of a nasty divorce telling me his soon-to-be ex was on her way to make us buy back the engagement ring and was threatening to kill us if we didn’t. Imagine her surprise when she was met by the police. She said she wasn’t really going to kill us, but she admitted to saying it and they took her away. A year later, the husband came in to buy an engagement ring for a new lady. He asked if we had a return policy. I said we did: “No Returns On Special Orders.” And we were considering this very special! Published 4 days agoon November 14, 2019By INSTORE Staff I had a great assistant manager who also happened to be very handy doing repairs around the store. One time, he was working on an electrical problem in the island in the front of the store. Somehow, some of the wires got crossed and blew him back onto the floor in a pile of debris in the center of the island semi-conscious. Another employee, a part-time ambulance attendant, asked, “Should I give him mouth-to-mouth?” And the chorus replied, “No, let him lie!” This is the stuff of legends! — Jon Walp, Long Jewelers, Virginia Beach, VA Continue Reading True TalesThis Grandma Had An Unbelievable Plan to Escape If The Custom Design Estimate Was Too High Even her grandkids were in on it. Published 1 month agoon October 8, 2019By INSTORE Staff Recently, a new customer walked in hoping to have a custom ring made. We browsed through the counters, tried on rings, looked at wax patterns, and I had a good feeling about her. She was so excited and eager that while she had lunch, I sketched a design. She took a look and seemed very relieved! She then shared that she and her grandchildren, who were with her, were so nervous that the estimate would be out of their price range, they had came up with a plan to get her out of the store if she couldn’t afford it. She said she was supposed to fake a heart attack and the grandchildren would usher her out quickly to the car. I have never laughed so hard! Luckily, she loved the design, it was in her price range and they didn’t have to carry out their sneaky plan!
